The best way to start your education program is with your internal staff and partners.

  1. Be sure all of your call takers and dispatchers have completed the Smart911 Training Course at Rave Academy. They will get a certificate upon completion.
  2. Encourage your entire staff to create their own Safety Profile for their household. Not only will their family be protected in the event of an emergency, but they will also get a chance to experience the process of creating a profile and be able to view the types of information that can be provided to them.
  3. Provide an overview and education to all members of the response agencies that you dispatch for. Police, Fire and EMS should understand what Smart911 is, how to explain it to community members and learn how to utilize the First Responder Portal (if you have chosen to use this feature). Encourage all responders to create their own profile as well.
  4. If you have the ability, extend this awareness and education to all government employees. This can include members of your city/town/county offices as well as employees of all municipal offices.

What if there’s a fire, a medical emergency, or a child goes missing? When you dial 9-1-1 under stress, you may not have access to important details, or your may have trouble remembering them. Smart911 is a new service in the community that allows you to create a Safety Profile at that includes details you want the 9-1-1 center and public safety response teams to know about your household in an emergency. When you dial 9-1-1, your Safety Profile automatically displays to the 9-1-1 call taker, allowing them to send responders based on up-to-date location and emergency information. With your Safety Profile, responders can arrive aware of many details they would not otherwise know. Fire crews can arrive knowing exactly how many people live your home and where the bedrooms are located. EMS personnel can know family members’ allergies or specific medical conditions. And police can access a photo of a missing family member in seconds rather than minutes or hours, helping the search start faster.
