Fairbanks North Star Borough, Alaska, the Missouri University of Science and Technology and Dillard’s Incorporated received the 2020 Rave Trailblazer Award while Ottawa County Central Dispatch Authority and Eaton County Central Dispatch were presented with the 2020 Rave SmartSave Award.
Since 2017 the Rave Trailblazer Award has formally recognized Rave customers who have gone above and beyond to provide a safe community through effective and innovative uses of technology. While all Rave customers dedicate themselves to their critical mission of protecting the populations they serve, these awardees have taken truly unique approaches to engaging with their communities and establishing collaborative partnerships that enhance safety.
Fairbanks North Star Borough, Alaska, was recognized for leadership in public safety collaboration and advancing lifesaving technologies for improving community safety and disaster response, while the Missouri University of Science and Technology was awarded for achievements in incorporating lifesaving technologies into daily campus safety operations and emergency response. Dillard’s Incorporated was named a Trailblazer in response to the company’s dedication to advancing employee, workplace and customer safety through the incorporation of lifesaving technologies.

The SmartSave Award recognizes customers’ efforts to incorporate lifesaving technologies into their 9-1-1 emergency communication operations for their communities, using solutions like the Rave 911 Suite, Rave Panic Button, Rave Alert and Rave Guardian to positively impact emergency calls and response.
Ottawa County Central Dispatch Authority leveraged the Rave 911 Suite chat feature to communicate with several callers via text—a crucial channel to learn more about an emergency situation and be able to send help when callers cannot communicate verbally. For Eaton County Central Dispatch, those chat capabilities proved lifesaving when individuals in domestic violence situations needed emergency assistance but couldn’t communicate verbally. Thanks to Eaton County’s use of the chat feature, dispatchers were able to get the information needed so that first responders could safely reach those in need.

Rave Summit showcased overcoming public safety challenges brought on by the pandemic
The awards were given at Rave’s annual Summit, which took place virtually Oct. 19-21. At the event, Rave unveiled an expanded partner ecosystem and Rave Collaborate™, a new solution for Tactical Incident Collaboration. Hundreds of attendees heard from Rave customers sharing their own best practices and experiences in critical communication, with a special focus on overcoming emergency communication challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Speakers included Vance Taylor, Chief of Access & Functional Needs, California Office of Emergency Services; John Tommaney, Director of Emergency Management for Boston College; and Joel Vetter, Chief of Fire Rescue Services for Suffolk County Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Service, who discussed the next phase of COVID-19 response. Other highlights included a keynote session from retired Navy SEAL, best-selling author and crisis management expert Clint Emerson and discussions focused on reaching constituents in an increasingly socially distant world.
