You Don’t Know Where I am? Understanding E9-1-1 Location Accuracy


The ability for 9-1-1 telecommnuicators to locate a wireless caller is perhaps one of the most misunderstood functions of emergency communications.  In future posts, we’ll investigate the technologies involved, but the infographic below outlines the FCC’s current E9-1-1 location accuracy requirements.  This isn’t necessarily what the wireless carriers deliver to today, instead it is what is minimally required.  It’s important to note that over the next few years the standards become more stringent.  But for now, hope this helps explain a complex standard that is highly dependent on the technology employed by your carrier/handset and where you are located.
