Beginning Monday, when people dial 911 for help in St. Helena or Tangipahoa Parishes, they could be answered by a smarter emergency dispatching system.
Tangipahoa 911 Director Dennis Darouse and his team unveiled the system this week, which allows people to provide information about their family and save it in a database in the event they ever need emergency assistance. Names, ages and medical conditions of people at an address will be immediately available for first responders.
"The people are able to go to a website and download all their personal information. It's a very secure website, it's free of charge," Darouse recently told WWL TV, a partner news gathering organization with WBRZ and WBRZ.com.
People in both parishes can upload pictures of family members, pets, home blueprints, information about their vehicles and medical histories. Information can be uploaded to www.smart911.com. It will be used by responders in units and on smart phones, so the information travels with crews who will be arriving and leaving vehicles to help someone in need.
Smart911 will work anywhere a system is in use. So, residents of St. Helena and Tangipahoa who travel to other places where it is used will be able to have the system access their information no matter where they are.
