IONIA, Mich. (WZZM) -- There's a new tool in Ionia and Eaton Counties that could help save lives.
Smart911 is a national safety service that enhances the counties' current system. Residents participate by creating a profile and sharing as much or little information as they want.
By doing this, first responders say they can get to you more quicklyin an emergency.
"That profile is displayed on the call taker's screen to provide the additional information that the person feels is pertinent to assist with the response," explained James Valentine of Ionia County Central Dispatch.
Residents can sign up online atwww.smart911com. Eaton and Ionia Counties are the third and fourth counties in Michigan to implement the new system.
