Lombard residents are reminded, and encouraged to register for Smart 911, a new technology where citizens can register their cell phone numbers online.
In the event of an emergency, any 9-1-1 call made from a registered resident’s cell phone will relay the individual’s personal information directly to the dispatcher, who can then pass it along to the responder.
When residents register for Smart 911, they are asked to provide information about themselves and their families, such as medical conditions and alerts, children’s photographs, home and work addresses or other rescue-related information.
This information is collected and kept confidential. It can only be accessed by operators and responders if the cell phone registered to the system is used to make the emergency call.
