Nashville Emergency Communications Center Purchases Smart911 from Rave Mobile Safety

Smart911 is free for citizens and allows them to enter safety information online that is automatically displayed to 9-1-1 operators during an emergency

The Nashville Emergency Communications Center and Rave Mobile Safety, a leading provider of software safety solutions, today announced the purchase of Smart911 for use in the Nashville area. Smart911 allows citizens to enter information online that they want to have delivered automatically to the 9-1-1 operator in the event that a 9-1-1 call is placed. The additional data provided is far more extensive than what is normally available to first responders and helps to improve incident outcomes.

“Smart911 provides us with critical information about callers that will help us more efficiently process emergency calls for service,” said Nashville Emergency Communications Center Director Duane Phillips. ”Smart911 is enhancing our service today, and as we move towards a Next Generation 9-1-1 infrastructure (NG9-1-1), we will be able to use this information to provide even more robust capabilities to our citizens. Additionally, since we continue to see a growing number of 9-1-1 calls that originate from mobile phones, it’s a great benefit to know that this data is provided for calls that come from landline, VoIP, and mobile phones.”

Smart911 provides citizens with the ability to enter information that they want to make available to 9-1-1 call takers through a secure web site at www.Smart911.com. Information can include children’s photos, medical conditions, home addresses of mobile phone callers, disabilities or other rescue-related information. Smart911 then delivers this information automatically with any 9-1-1 call to the call taker’s work station at participating Public Service Answering Points (PSAPs). The service, which is free to citizens, enhances response and supports improved incident outcomes, by providing responders with critical additional information. It also supports citizen demand for the ability to easily provide and manage special needs data.

The Nashville Emergency Communications Center (www.nashville.gov/ecc) serves as the sole Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for all 9-1-1 emergency and non-emergency calls within Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County. In addition, the Nashville ECC is responsible for dispatching police, fire and emergency medical resources within the same jurisdiction, making it the largest NAED-accredited consolidated emergency communication center in the United States. Call takers answer approximately one million calls for service each year, with an average 9-1-1 answer time of 6.4 seconds.
