Residents Can Add to E911 Database
Porter County residents can now go online and enter personal information they think could be valuable to first responders in an emergency situation.
Porter County’s Smart911 service allows residents to log on to smart911.com and enter information about their family members and homes that instantly available to first responders in the event of an emergency.
“This will help us provide more information to 911 call takers, as well as first responders before they arrive on the scene,” Porter County E911 Director Dave Scheibels said.
“From knowing why a victim is unable to speak, to providing EMS with information about medical conditions, to even having a photo of a lost child available immediately, the information provided by Smart911 will help us better serve our citizens and can help save lives,” he said.
Using a series of online templates, residents can enter information on medical conditions, home addresses of cellphone users and even photos of children living in a home or apartment.
The information is kept confidential and is made available only to an E911 dispatcher when a call is placed from the telephone registered for that address.
