Office of Emergency Management Launches Disaster Planning Program
The state of Arkansas invests thousands in keeping citizens safe during disasters
Maxwell says the state is tied for 8th place among states in the nation with the most presidential disaster declarations. That ranking is a major reason the state is investing in Smart911. The online program allows users to input important personal information that can pop up when a caller dials 911.In place for 10 months, Maxwell says they’re already seeing results.
“We have saved a couple lives, so whatever investment it’s probably paid for itself right there,” he says.
Now the same profile will be used to help emergency management plan for large scale disasters with Smart Prepare.
Rave Mobile Safety spokesperson Noah Reiter says, “Whether it’s when you dial 911 or whether you’re preparing for natural or man made event, that’s a disaster.”
“That will enable local first responders to do a much better job planning and having resources available when we do have disasters,” adds Maxwell.
Arkansas is the only state in the nation paying for everyone to take advantage of Smart911 and Smart Prepare.
