A New Program in Kalkaska County Aims to Help Emergency Responders Better Serve Their Communities.

9 and 10 newsKalkaska County is launching a new program to help emergency responders give better service to the people they’re helping.

SMART911 is an online system where people can create profiles that Central Dispatch will be able to access anytime you call 911.

These profiles will show up on a dispatcher’s screen and can help dispatchers know what kind of help you may need.

Instead of just basic information like a phone number or address, people can add anything that may be helpful for first responders to know in an emergency situation.

Things like additional directions, any kind of medical needs that may be out of the ordinary, allergies, alerting dispatch about children or pets in the home, anything that would assist us that first responders would have to look up otherwise.

The Sheriff’s Department is asking anyone and everyone to create a profile.

You can access SMART 911 by clicking here, and the Sheriff’s Department says they plan to hold sign-up days at the National Trout Festival later this month.
