Recently, campus security experts gathered to discuss strategies for stopping violence on campus. The conversation will combine various viewpoints from Howard University Chief of Police Leroy James, Security on Campus Executive Director Jonathan Kassa and founder of renowned safety consultants Nicoletti-Flater & Associates Dr. John Nicoletti. These specialists will discuss the pros and cons of current safety solutions, overcoming implementation hurdles and developing a comprehensive campus safety road map.
A police psychologist in the Denver-metro area for more than 25 years, Dr. John Nicoletti has expanded into the field of violence prevention. He has worked with the United Postal Service, United Airlines, NASA, Johns Manville, and the U.S. Department of Energy. In 1993, Dr. Nicoletti co-wrote Violence Goes to College and Violence Goes to School.
As Executive Director of Security On Campus, Inc. (or SOC) Jonathan Kassa draws on his more than 15 years of nonprofit experience. As both Executive Leader and Director of Development and Programming he has worked to broaden the mission of SOC from ardent victims advocate to teaching college and university communities nationwide about preventing violent crime.
Chief Leroy K. James is the Chief of the Howard University Police Department (HUPD). He is a veteran law enforcement Commander, who retired from the Prince George’s County Police Department. Chief James oversees the operations of University Police and is charged with designing, implementing, managing and improving safety services and programs.
